WoYeShi #ME TOO 2021
WOYESHI#METOO 2021
"Bald Girls" is now entering the project "Me Too". "Bald Girls" has always followed the motto "private is public" in the past, aiming to make the private expression of female artists public. In the past ten years, great things have happened in China and the world. While some "private narratives" entered the public space, individual female artists gradually began to think that "private" seemed to be too much, and suggested that "private" should remain on a private level.
The new project "Me Too" started by "Bald Girl" keeps pace with the times, trying to explore the tension and interaction between private narrative and public space from different perspectives. #Metoo is an international hot public topic in recent years, and it is also the most private public topic. However, in China, individual female artists express that they just want to be "me" and do not want to participate in public topics. Of course, the ideas of these female artists are formed based on personal experience and have their own rationality. Unfortunately, art has never been just a private event. In Chinese society where ideology is everywhere, "being yourself" is not as simple as everyone thinks. "Being yourself" is not chicken soup, but a luxury. The project "Me Too" is the "public" part that cannot be avoided in the process of "becoming myself".
In the video of the first episode of "Me Too", Ms. Juan Xu, the founding curator of Bald Girls, and Ms. Li Xinmo, the founding artist of Bald Girls, talked about the creative motivation and the social reasons for launching the "Me Too" project, as well as the artist's involvement in social issues possible paths. Artist Jiang Zhenlei actively participated in the questioning. The first episode is also interspersed with a video of Ms. Juan Xu interviewing the Austrian feminist critic Ms. Julia Hardmann, providing an international perspective on the project.
The first episode of "Me Too" explores the tension and interaction between private narratives and public spaces, provides an innovative perspective on feminist art creation, and showcases the moving stories of contemporary female artists and curators who care about the situation and status of women. Serious thinking.
