2022 Becoming A Woman No.1 Lady Her: Beauty and Pain
After completing the five-episode video of "Retrospective" of Bald Girls ", Bald Girls started a new art project "Becoming a Woman", which aims to explore violence against women and conduct reflection and criticism. The first episode of "Becoming a Woman" took the opportunity of the release of Ni Huaxuan's work " I am Her" by China's documentary director Ni Huaxuan. Ms. Juan Xu, the founding curator of Bald Girls, and the artist Jiang Zhenlei interviewed Ni Huaxuan and Ms. Song Meiya, a domestic violence expert, on topics including documentary interviews. The perspective of women, the awakening of men on the issue of gender equality, the suffering women and first-hand information that Ms. Song Meiya encountered in her anti-domestic violence work over the years, etc. Just as the "Xuzhou Eight-Child Mother" incident attracted the attention of the Chinese people, the first issue of "Becoming a Woman" analyzed the violence against women ranging from mild to severe to bloody, as well as the history and current situation of trafficking in women. Ms. Song Meiya revealed the reality of domestic violence in China, and pointed out that the gender mechanism of inequality between men and women is the root cause of violence against women. The video concludes by discussing whether women can abandon their social discourse power and independently “Become a woman”, become a female artist or other self-idealities. Ms. Song Meiya pointed out that the backlash of “Women’s ideals and ideal Women” hinders the social chain of women’s realization of their own ideals.
