Spectacle International Art Exchange Jiangxi China 2019
Preface
At the beginning of "Spectacle of the Society", Guy Debord pointed out the essence of the society: The entire life of societies in which modern conditions of production reign announces itself as an immense accumulation of spectacles.Everything that was directly lived has moved away into a representation......The spectacle is the moment when the commodity has attained the total occupation of social life.
Modernity has many faces, among which the principal contradiction is the conflict between social modernity and aesthetic modernity. Social modernity focuses on instrumental rationalism and aims to pursue and create the greatest materiality. Aesthetic modernity is the reaction of the former, which emphasizes humanism and individual freedom. When we examine again the world through scanning the spectacle critically in the face of complex and intertwined cultural ecology, can we inherit and carry forward heritage left by Guy Debord , and began to face the reflection and criticism of two dimensions - one criticism outward, exploring how autocracy and totalitarianism formed in pre-modern society collude with the modernity of capital and gain the legitimacy of ideology; In addition, it is necessary to keep asking ourselves: will subjectivity based on absolute free will be gradually consumed by vulgar materialization?
Cultural conflicts become more frequent with the process of globalization. Looking around the world, in the face of the value game between conservatism and liberalism on the international stage, and in the face of the resurgence of populism on the global scale, how should artists choose their own position to establish their valuable independent character?
Perhaps, as Guy Debord said, situationists are everywhere. They try to construct situations to break out of the box, to free themselves from the habitual ways of thinking and acting. Situationists believe that every individual should actively and consciously participate in the reconstruction of every moment of life. Because they believe that all individuals should construct their own situations, live up to their potential, and have their own fun.
Spectacle 2019 is a visual representation of the above thoughts.
